Tantalus 2021 Old Vines Riesling 750ml

The Old Vines Riesling, one of Canada's top wines, comes entirely off their north-facing 1978 plantings of clone 21B, sheltered by Ponderosa pines, and rooted in deep silty soils. This was handpicked, gently whole bunch pressed, settled and fermented cool for 45 days before resting a few months on lees, plus 2 years in bottle prior to release. You are tasting the magic of site, and time. Savoury crushed stones are woven with lime pith and peel, crunchy green apple, and scrubby desert flowers. Acidity is juicy and well placed, easily lofting this through a lingering saline, white pepper finish. Nothing is out of place here, even now in youth, and this will continue to harmonize over the coming years. Incredible value.
