Saint Damien
The exquisite wines of Domaine Saint Damien, all organically produced since 2012, embody the soul of their terroir, reflecting the estate's commitment to both tradition and innovation. This expanse includes 15 hectares in AOP Gigondas, spread over several notable lieux-dits: Le Gravas, Pigieres, La Louisiane, Les Souteyrades, La Moutte, and La Tour. This varied parceling allows the estate to harness a remarkable geological diversity and array of exposures, enabling an intricate selection process that maximizes the potential of the vines, particularly at Louisiane and Souteyrades.
In the Plan de Dieu area, the estate nurtures old vine Grenache on red clay and pebble soils, thoughtfully blended with Mourvèdre planted on sandy parcels. This careful cultivation results in a harmonious assembly of flavors and textures.
Their Côtes-du-Rhône vineyards, located on a clay-limestone plot at La Bouveau and Les Rouvieres, are a testament to diversity, planted with Grenache, Syrah, Carignan, and Cinsault. This varietal blend brings forth a unique character to their Côtes-du-Rhône wines, showcasing the richness of the region's soil.
Additionally, Domaine Saint Damien produces a distinct Vin de France from parcels near the winery. These cooler, limon-rich zones, not classified for AOP Gigondas, are primarily planted with Marselan and Caladoc, contributing to a unique and approachable table wine.
This intricate tapestry of terroirs not only defines the character of each wine from Domaine Saint Damien but also reflects the estate's profound respect for the land and their commitment to expressing the unique qualities of each vineyard. This careful stewardship, coupled with their ecological and sustainable practices, positions Domaine Saint Damien as a beacon of excellence in the world of wine.
