Crozes- Hermitage
Surrounding the hill of Hermitage, Crozes-Hermitage produces more wine than any other Northern Rhone appellation. The land here is much flatter than the other appellations in the region, allowing for mechanical harvesting, and hence larger production and lower prices. Like its more prestigious neighbor, Crozes makes primarily red wine from Syrah, but also some white from Marsanne and Roussanne. And while Crozes shares some of the robust character of Hermitage, the wines are generally fruitier and softer – perfect for drinking young while you wait for your Hermitage to mature.
